Peter J. Basso, PE, FASHRAE
Chairman

With over 40 years of experience in the construction industry, Pete has a diverse background in mechanical engineering and project management.  His extensive work portfolio includes projects in all of the basic building types, with construction budgets of up to $1 billion.  Projects include the University of Michigan Medical Sciences Research Building III, the Compuware New Headquarters Building, Michigan State University Pavilion: Agriculture and Livestock Education Center.

Pete has a bachelor of mechanical engineering, cum laude from the University of Detroit – Mercy.  He is a Fellow of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers and past president of the Detroit chapter.  He is also a member of the Engineering Society of Detroit and National Society of Professional Engineers. 

Petehas been deeply involved in ASHRAE for many years and was elected to the grade of Fellow by the ASHRAE Board of Directors. The title of "Fellow" is granted to a member of ASHRAE who has made substantial contributions and has attained distinction in this field of engineering. Pete is one of only six individuals from the Detroit Chapter who have been named for such an honor since 1959.

Jason Wang, PE
President

Jason plays an important role in the administrative direction of the firm as well as managing individual projects. He has been responsible for the business development of the firm, which has contributed to its continuous growth and success. 

Jason has specialized in the design, development and implementation of complex energy management and conservation projects and he is very skilled in comprehensive HVAC systems and energy studies for healthcare facilities and central heating and cooling plants.  With his in-depth knowledge of the higher education facilities and the operation of these campuses, Jason has assisted campus facilities management departments in establishing and developing projects for many colleges and universities.

Jason completed his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Tatung Institute of Technology. He earned his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Detroit.  He belongs to a number of professional societies, including the Engineering Society of Detroit, Michigan Society of Professional Engineers, Association of Energy Engineers and Certified Cogeneration Professionals. Jason also served as the President of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers’ Detroit chapter.

Daniel J. Englehart, PE, LEED AP
Chief Operating Officer

Dan oversees the operations of the firm in addition to serving as leader of the firm's Education market sector design group.  Dan coordinates the activities of a large group of engineers, designers and CAD support staff as well as serving as a tehcnical resource for the firm.  He has experience in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, energy management and control systems design for a variety of project types, including the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center (2003 ASHRAE First Place Chapter and Regional Award winner); Oakland University Oakland Center Expansion and Renovation; Lake Superior State University Center for Fine and Performing Arts.

Dan is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers and is a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional.  Dan has a bachelor of mechanical engineering from University of Detroit-Mercy.

Kevin C. Rettich, PE, LC, CLEP
Senior Vice President

Kevin's skills include architectural lighting design, including the use of day-lighting techniques.  He has also designed and administered complex underground electrical utility systems, fire alarm and security systems, telecommunication systems and hazardous area designs.

Acquiring his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Kevin has earned many honors and awards, including the Thomas and Betts 1995 Signature Award, a national award recognizing the top electrical company of the year.

Kevin belongs to several professional societies including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Engineering Society of Detroit, Michigan Professional Engineering Society, the Association of Energy Engineers and the American Institute of Architects.  He previously served as the president and treasurer of the Illuminating Engineering Society.

Dennis P. Sczomak, PE, LEED AP
Senior Vice President

Dennis leads the firm's Commercial/Governmental Market Sector directing his team members on a variety of projects including office buildings, public libraries, restaurants, and sports and entertainment facilities.  Dennis is well-versed in all aspects of mechanical engineering, with special emphasis on energy monitoring and control systems; temperature control systems; and heating and cooling plant instrumentation. His project history includes engineering for both new and renovated facilities including: Compuware New Headquarters Building (2005 ESD Award winner, and 2005 ASHRAE First Place Chapter Award winner); Warren City Hall and Library; Mirage Volcano Enhancements in Las Vegas; McCann Erickson-Detroit Office Renovations.

Dennis is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers and has just completed a term as president for the Detroit chapter.  Dennis attained both bachelor and master degrees of mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.

James C. Paul, PE, LEED AP
Vice President

Jim is the firm’s Healthcare/Laboratory Market Sector Leader.  He has significant experience in the design of complex HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems for a variety of project types with special emphasis on healthcare and laboratory facilities.  His project history includes engineering for both new and renovated facilities including: Kellogg Eye Center at University of Michigan; Southshore Medical Center; Sinai-Grace Hospital Consolidation projects; Saginaw Valley State University Energy Loop System (2000 ASHRAE Technology Award – Chapter and Regional; National Competition Honorable Mention); Cheboygan Hospital Medical Office Building; Thunder Bay Community Health facility. 

Jim is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers and is a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional.  Jim holds a bachelor of arts, cum laude from Kalamazoo College and a bachelor of science in engineering from Oakland University.
